Bones for Fertilisers - Put them out for salvage 76x50cm Printed for HM Stationery Office by Fosh & Cross Ltd, London Original vintage lithographic poster Britain in the full grip of war struggled to feed its population. Much food was imported over the U-boat infested North Atlantic. Any food that could be grown at home reduced the risk to seamen as it reduced the necessary number of journeys. Bones were thus to be recycled into fertiliser in order to improve farming yields. The photograph shows a field with manually stooked corn sheaves; a far cry from the mechanical farming of today.
