Original vintage Asia travel poster issued by the East Indian Railway (1845-1952) - See the Calcutta Zoo - featuring a great design by Kay Nixon (Kathleen Irene Nixon; 1895-1988) of a mother hippopotamus with her mouth wide open in the water next to a baby hippo calf framed in a blue line, a row of nine penguins against a blue background below and the title text in bold black lettering on the yellow border with the East Indian Railway heritage crest and a stamp on the side. Located in Calcutta / Kolkata the Zoological Garden Alipore opened in 1876; it is the oldest zoo park in India and a popular tourist destination. Printed by Norbury, Natzio & Co Ltd Manchester and London, England. Good condition, restored paper losses, restored folds, restored tears, staining, ink stamp and ink handwriting, backed on linen.
