Original vintage travel advertising poster issued by Shell - To Visit Britain's Landmarks You Can Be Sure Of Shell - featuring a view of the historic Temple Bar gate by the English painter Edward Scroggie (1906–1944) surrounded by green trees and hedgerows when it was located at Theobolds Park in Hertfordshire. Commissioned by King Charles II and originally located in the City of London, the Temple Bar gate was constructed in Portland stone from 1669-1672 with a central arch and side arches, attributed to the English architect Sir Christopher Wren; due to traffic congestion it was sold to brewer Sir Thomas Meux in 1880 and moved to his stately home in Hertfordshire; it was moved back to the City of London in 2001-2004, now located in Paternoster Square by St Paul's Cathedral. Horizontal. Large Size. Very good condition, repaired tears, minor creasing, minor staining, backed on linen.
