About the Item
Childhood memories of a red tricycle led to this print by Chicano artist Xavier Viramontes.
In the 1970's, Viramontes designed the poster for the United Farmworkers Union, 'Boycott Grapes’, which is now part of the permanent collection of the Smithsonian Institute, National Museum of American Art, in Washington, D.C.
Viramontes was the subject of a 1-hour documentary "Xavier Viramontes, A Life in Print" which has been shown on PBS. It covers Xavier's early years growing up in a large Hispanic family in the Richmond / San Pablo, area and his involvement with the Galeria de la Raza of San Francisco.
Born in Richmond, California, Xavier has a BFA Degree in Painting from the San Francisco Art Institute and an MA Degree in Printmaking from San Francisco State University. He currently teaches printmaking at City College of San Francisco.

Cottonwoods II
By David Smith-Harrison
Located in Palm Springs, CA
Signed, numbered, and titled by the artist from the edition of 200. Winter scene of cottonwoods in a field with a dusting of snow.
Smith-Harrision's work very often features architectural elements, along with trees. This is one his largest prints, which took him two years to complete. The ornate imagery of spanish tile that borders the lower half of the print needs to be seen in person to be fully appreciated. The two palms are specific trees that Smith-Harrison encountered on a trip to Spain.
