About the Item

Lithograph from the 1954 book The Posters of Toulouse-Lautrec, printed by Mourlot Frères in Paris. This masterful reproduction captures one of Lautrec’s rare multi-color, single-pass lithographs, a technical innovation where several hues were printed in perfect registration in one pass of the press. Originally created in 1900 to promote La Gitane (The Gypsy), a drama in four acts by Jean Richepin, this striking composition features a dramatic palette: a soft grey background, blue shading, ochre blending into vivid red lettering, and deep black for definition. The powerful imagery centers on a figure with a sweeping black cloak, embodying Lautrec’s flair for theatrical posters that merge artistry with promotion. A historic work that bridges technical mastery with theatrical glamour, this lithograph reflects both the cultural vibrancy of Paris at the turn of the 20th century and Lautrec’s inventive spirit. Vintage Henri de Toulouse Lautrec "Theatre Antoine, La Gitane de Richepin" Print
By Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec
Located in San Carlos, CA
Gorgeous vintage lithograph after Henri de Toulouse Lautrec's "La Gitane" by Jean Richepin. This print was produced in the late 1960's by famed Penn Prints in New York. Overall this print is in great condition. There's some small creases due to handling, but no rips, nicks or discoloration. This print is unframed. This print was originally produced by Henri de Toulouse Lautrec for "La Gitane" or 'The Gypsy," a drama by Jean Richepin in 4 acts. The play was first performed at the Theatre Antoine on January 22nd 1900. This poster was one of only two where Toulouse-Lautrec utilized a process where by several colors can be printed at one pass of the printing press as long as the color sequence is arranged in concert with the movement of the platen. In this case, the man's cloak and the words "Theatre Antoine, La Gitane de Richepin...
