About

ames Grashow is a multifaceted artist who is best known for his intricate sculptures and immersive installations that are created from cardboard. Grashow is also an accomplished woodcut artist whose prints have appeared regularly in the New York Times and periodicals throughout America. His translation of universal themes concerning man, nature, and mortality are reproduced in his fantastical illustrations, and though his concepts are at times dark and political, Grashow always maintains a sense of humor in his masterfully executed works. James Grashow was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1942. He received his BFA and MFA from Pratt Institute in 1965. He was the recipient of a Fulbright Travel Grant to Florence Italy where he became inspired by the work of Bernini. He has exhibited at the Whitney Museum of Art, New York, The Aldrich Museum of Contemporary Art, Connecticut, and Allan Stone Gallery, New York, among others. His work is in several public collections including the Museum of Modern Art, New York; the Library of Congress, Washington, D.C; New York Public Library; and Roanake Museum of Fine Art, Virginia.
