Actor Iwai Shigaku as Somenoi in "Denka chaya adauchi" (Revenge at the Denka Teahouse), by Shigeharu, Ryusai (also called Kuniyoshi) Tokyo: Horie Ichiba Wataki, 1835. Woodcut on laid mulberry paper, 14 1/4 x 9 5/8 inches (361 x 225 mm), vertical ōban tate-e, the full sheet. With that artist's signature and seal in black ink in the lower-center image area. Edo period. Minor toning and archivally repaired insect damage in the lower right sheet. Colors remain fresh.
