McClelland Barclay
Original "Save Your Cans, Help pass the Ammunition" vintage military poster

1944

About the Item

Original. "Save Your Cans, Help pass the Ammunition" vintage poster. Prepare your tin cans for war. Linen-backed; very good condition, ready to frame. Produced for the Salvage Division War PRODUCTION Board. Text continues: 1. Remove tops and bottoms, 2. take off paper labels, 3. wash thoroughly, 4. flatten firmly. War Production Board seal in the bottom left corner. Artist: McClelland Barclay, USNR. During World War II, the U.S. Government aggressively asked Americans to contribute to the war effort through recycling measures such as saving cans. A woman's arm holding a tomato can appears on the bottom right side of the poster. The can image is repeated and runs into the vintage poster image. As the cans get smaller, they change into a chain of bullets that a soldier is feeding into his gun. There are two soldiers in the image, one with a machine gun and a large blast of fire. The original World War 2 posters were folded and mailed out across the United States. These fold marks have been restored during linen backing. WW2 posters were printed on wood pulp paper because they were less expensive, and thus, most of them were destroyed over time. This is a rarely available vintage poster

The event poster, such as this image was not available to the public for purchase. The artist name may be hidden inside the design, but we believe the artwork to be done by Jeff Foster. It features a driver looking through his helmet as he is racing, with a reflection of a palm tree and the starting flag reflection back on the face shield. The poster has no defects.
