About the Item
Original vintage travel poster for the city of Rimini by the poster artist Rene Gruau. Size: 27.25" x 39". Excellent condition. Paper.
An original poster was created for the city of Rimini to promote the beauty of its sunny beaches. This lovely woman in a straw hat holds a sizeable yellow beach ball to mimic the sun. The soft blue background conveys the peaceful nature of the beach, with Rimini written in the clouds in the stream of the airplane. This is one of the last posters created by Rene Gruau.
With his stunning figures, arresting use of color, and dramatic line element, Rene Gruau developed his distinctive "New Look" in the 1940s, greatly influencing fashion, theatre, art, and commercial design. He worked for magazines such as Harper's Bazaar, Vogue, Femina, Marie-Claire, etc. Gruau's artwork is celebrated internationally for its masterful line and enduring style. Today, Gruau's works are collected and exhibited in the finest art institutions, including the Louvre in Paris. This poster, for the Italian seaside resort of Rimini, was the last produced by the master in his lifetime.

René Gruau, an Italian-born artist who made his name in Paris and New York as an illustrator for fashion houses, women's magazines, nightclubs and ballet companies. René Gruau astounds us simply by the immensity of his work, his modernity, his simplicity and his utter elegance. He is a virtuoso performer of the greatest names in fashion, the most prestigious brands, the most colourful shows. but the artist has the elegance to stay behind his works. His talent and his highly personal style shine through... In the 1990's there were exhibitions of his work in Germany, Japan, Monaco and France. The largest retrospective was organized by the Advertising Museum in Paris in 1999. It was called, simply, ''Passionately Gruau.''
