About the Item

This is a unique proof, aside from the edition of only 6 on wood panel (there was a separate larger edition of paper - this is the rare wood panel example): Shepard Fairey God Save the Queen, 2012 Screenprint on Wood Panel in artist's frame Hand-signed by artist, Signed twice: Pencil signed, dated and annotated AP on the front; also pencil signed, dated and annotated AP on the back of the board (see photos) (this is an Artist's Proof, aside from the regular edition of only 6.) Artists frame included This screenprint on wood board is an Artist's Proof, aside from the regular edition of only six (6) done on wood panel. The work is signed, dated and annotated twice - once on the front of the board and once on the verso. Measurements: Framed 24.5 inches vertical by 18.5 inches horizontal by 1.25 inches Artwork 24 inches vertical by 18 inches (There is a separate screenprint on paper of this work, published in an edition of 450, at a more accessible price point) For those who are not familiar with Shepard Fairey's works on wood, the distressed, imperfect, vintage appearance of the silkscreen on the panel is part of his distinctive aesthetic and makes the work look like a painting. (see close up photos included here). This mixed media work is rarely seen on the public market: another example from the regular edition of six last appeared at a European auction house in 2018. A must have for fans of Shepard Fairey and Queen Elizabeth II.

“3 THE HARD WAY portrays the concept of standing together to fight a system of racism and violence against the Black community — because we are stronger together,” explained Brantley. “I was thinking about building a community, building that totem, stacking one on top of another to reach somewhere closer to where we need to be. I’ve been exploring the language of totems and like the idea that you can combine different ideologies and tie them together in one narrative. Through 3 THE HARD WAY what I’m creating is one very concise theme, of brotherhood and building. Ultimately, the works highlight themes of race and power, but also hope.” Artists: Brantley, Hebru Manufacturer: Avant Arte...
