Art Sz: 12 1/2"H x 7 5/8"W
Frame Sz: 18 7/8"H x 12 3/4"W
Lester Berchart Reiff (1877–1948) was an American jockey who achieved racing acclaim in the United Kingdom in the first decade of the twentieth century. In 1900, he was the number one jockey racing in Britain based on earnings, beating other prominent American jockeys such as Tod Sloan, Danny Maher, Skeets Martin and his younger brother, John Reiff, that were also racing in Britain at the time. The Reiff brothers were implicated in a horse doping scandal in late 1901, which led to the revocation of Lester Reiff's license and the end of his racing career.

Sir Leslie Ward
Vanity Fair was a weekly magazine of social, literary and political content which was published in London from 1868 until February 5, 1914. It was favorite of Victorian and later, Edwardian England. Most popular of its features were the wonderful full page caricatures of famous men and women of the day. These lithographs remain Vanity Fair’s greatest legacy. The two most famous artists who worked for Vanity Fair were “Ape” (Carlo Pellegrini) and “Spy” (Leslie Ward), but many other artists provided images for this long running series of delightful caricatures.

Antique Vanity Fair Print 'Mr. Alfred Gwynne Vanderbilt' by Spy – 1899
This is an original Vanity Fair lithograph featuring Alfred Gwynne Vanderbilt, published as a supplement in 1899. The caricature was created by Leslie Ward, famously known as "Spy." Vanderbilt, a prominent American businessman and a member of the wealthy Vanderbilt family, is depicted here in his signature style—elegantly dressed in a tailored double-breasted coat, holding a driving whip, and wearing a top hat. The details of his fashionable attire and poised stance highlight his status as a key figure in high society and equestrian sports.
Published by Bemrose Dalziel Ltd., this Vanity Fair caricature is part of a long-standing tradition of capturing notable personalities from various spheres, including the aristocracy, business, and sport. Alfred Vanderbilt was known for his involvement in coaching and horse racing, making this print a wonderful representation of his lifestyle and the culture of the elite during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
This lithograph is perfect for collectors of Vanity Fair prints, equestrian enthusiasts, or those interested in historical depictions of influential figures. It serves as a stylish decorative piece, ideal for those who appreciate vintage caricatures...

Cecil Legard 'A Judge' Vanity Fair cartoon by Cuthbert "CB" Bradley
Located in London, GB
Cuthbert "CB" Bradley for Vanity Fair Magazine
"A Judge" - The Rev Cecil Legard
11 July 1901
Lithograph
21 x 37 cm
CB's cartoon depicts The Rev Cecil Legard (1843-1918), the Rector of Cottesbrooke and heir to the baronetcy. As well as a clergyman, Legard was a noted sportsman and hound expert; he was a steeplechase rider, and also edited the Foxhound Kennel Stud Book. CB depicts him judging hounds, excellently outfitted; as the biography on the reverse of the mounted lithograph notes, he might be 'the best judge of a foxhound in England'. A copy of the cartoon is held by the Kingston Lacy Estate in Dorset.
Cuthbert Bradley was also a sporting man - he famously authored 'Fox-Hunting from Shire to Shire with Many Noted Packs' and worked as a sporting journalist for The Field. As well as illustrating for Vanity Fair, he painted polo and foxhunting scenes, and other pictures of equestrian interest. The majority of his Vanity Fair cartoons are of hunting men.
The Vanity Fair magazine of 1868 to 1914 was subtitled 'A Weekly Show of Political, Social and Literary Wares'. Founded by Thomas Gibson...
