Sea creatures and the geometry of sea shells intrigue and inspire Juan. The duality of the shell—how it at once provides a private, interior life and an exterior facade—adds to its layered beauty. Juan Eduardo Gomez is a New York City-based painter whose artworks of human figures and landscapes blur the boundaries between abstract and representational art. Born in Bogota, Colombia during a time of war and political upheaval, Juan made the decision to move to the United States at age 19 to pursue his work in the visual arts. Instead of tapping into themes of cultural identity and established canons of art history, Juan seeks to create his own visual language, allowing his personal life to inform his creative pursuits. Although trained as an academic painter with roots in the western tradition of observation, Juan turns the act of observation inward, creating vibrant artworks filled with personal history and emotional identity. He received his BFA in Fine Arts at the School of Visual Arts in New York City; his works are held in the permanent collections of the High Museum of Art (Atlanta, GA), Museum of Fine Arts (Boston, MA), and Hispanic Society of America (New York, NY), among others. All artworks are prints. All works are printed on high-quality archival cotton rag paper. This piece is an exclusive limited edition of only 30.
