Betty Woodman first became interested in crafts because her father was a woodworker. In high school, one ceramics course was sufficient to convince Woodman that she wanted to be a functional potter. Studying pottery at the School for American Craftsmen at Alfred University, she developed a strong interest in the history of ceramics. Her first job after graduating in 1950 was as a production potter, and that technical facility and experience were to be the foundation of her subsequent innovations. In 1952 Woodman traveled to Italy, where exposure to traditions such as majolica opened her eyes to the potential of clay. It was not until the seventies that Woodman completely abandoned her functional approach. Collaborating with important figures in the Pattern and Decoration movement, such as Joyce Kozloff and Cynthia Carlson...

The subjects for his striking and captivating visuals are typically set in the most ordinary environments, drawing the viewer into a charged but serene experience based on composition, palette and formal lines. Saturated in color, the nominal subjects gather a haunting and mesmerizing quality, creating a poignant pretext for the making of a formal color photograph. Decisively capturing the traces left by humanity, Pawassar's images are filled with a sense of universal nostalgia and pay homage to the passage of time and the extinguished moment, referencing documentary and street photographers like Henri Cartier-Bresson, Sebastian Salgado...

Still Life with Watermelon - Woodcut Print by L. Servolini - 1977
Located in Roma, IT
Natura morta con anguria (Still Life with Watermelon) is an original colored xylograph on Fabriano Cotton watermarked paper realized by the Italian artist and xylograph master, Luigi Servolini (1906-1981). A beautiful original print, representing a colorful still life composed by a jug, a knife cutting a watermelon and a glass of red wine, is hand-signed in pencil by the artist on the lower right margin. Realized with a fresh line, a superb technique and a very high sensibility to colors, this classical composition with a formal order is a beautiful artist's proof. In excellent condition, except for some light sporadic stains on the margins, a defect does not affect the image, demonstrating a good inking and a full mastery of this artistic medium, this contemporary artwork comes with the certificate of authenticity (a blue ink stamp on the back on lower right,). Written and signed by the son of the artist, Gen. Giancarlo Servolini, this certificate explains that the original wood-blocks used for this print were destroyed after the realizations and specifies the edition ( 125 specimens with Roman numerals, 125 specimens with Arab numerals, 14 artist's proof). A really beautiful still life, perfect for every kind of furniture! Luigi Servolini (Livorno, 1906 - 1981) One of the great masters of Italian engraving, Luigi Servolini, graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Carrara, then perfecting himself in History of Medieval and Modern Art at the University of Florence. He has held various roles within the Italian academic world and his production as an art critic is also impressive, a profession he did simultaneously with that of engraver. In 1935 he promoted the creation of a Xylograph Museum in Carpi, birthplace of the master Ugo da Carpi...

Still Life with Flowers in a Vase - Woodcut Print by L. Servolini - 1973

Vaso con fiori is an original colored xylograph on paper realized by the Italian artist and xylograph master, Luigi Servolini (1906-1981) A beautiful original print, representing a colorful still life with flowers seems to simulate the art of glass windows, is hand-signed in pencil by the artist on the lower right margin. Realized with a fresh line and a very high sensibility to colors, this xylograph is a superb artist's proof, published in 1973 by the La Nuova Foglio, a publishing house of Macerata, Italy. In excellent condition and demonstrating a good inking and an incredible technique, this contemporary artwork comes with the certificate of authenticity (a blue ink stamp on the back on lower right, writen by the son of the artist).
