1944 Blohm und Voss "B.V.-222" - World War II German Reich patrol transport aeroplane

A particularly unusual style of aeroplane identification poster, owing to the very arty images. Most such posters rely on very plain silhouettes; this series - and we have many in this series - takes a much more arty approach to the task with shading and an interesting angle view.
The Blohm & Voss B.V.-222 "Wiking" was a large, six-engined German flying boat of World War II. Originally designed as a commercial transport plane, it became the largest seaplane to attain production status during the war.
The B.V.-222 made seven flights between Hamburg and Kirkenes up to 19 August 1941, transporting a total of 65,000 kg of supplies and 221 wounded men, covering a distance of 30,000 km in total. After being overhauled at Hamburg, it was sent to Athens, from where it carried supplies for the Afrika Korps, making 17 flights between 16 October and 6 November 1941. The B.V.-222 was at this time unarmed, and was given an escort of two Messerschmitt Bf 110 heavy fighters (posters of which are also available in our storefront) Following these flights, the seaplane returned to Hamburg to have defensive armaments fitted.
