Devil Take Us, Hot rod, racing film poster, 1952

1952

About the Item

An entire generation was traumatized by the grotesque classroom films on driving safety. After their sensible removal from the education system, these films became the stuff of legend. Original 1952 film poster for Herbert Morgan's Devil Take Us, an Academy Award-nominated documentary film cautioning the dangers of reckless driving. This poster was acquired directly from the National Screen Service Archives. For decades, the National Screen Service printed all the movie posters that movie theaters rented for screenings. At the bottom of every poster was a note that said "Property of National Screen Service Corp." or "N.S.S." and the posters were supposed to be returned following the movie run. While many posters were destroyed by the elements and others were pulled off the wall by collectors, a great many returned to their home and piled up for many many years. We were fortunate enough to be able to acquire rare treasures like these from the archive during its closing. This poster has been de-acidified and mounted onto linen using archival/acid-free materials. This artwork arrives accompanied by a certificate of authenticity. Notable collections include: Margaret Herrick Library, Poster collection, Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
