Ak Jansen was born in Dongen, The Netherlands, in 1988. He studied at the Design Academy Eindhoven focusing on textile design, material culture, and techniques of fabrication. He works primarily with textile and clay, making art objects that explore different body shapes and hint at organic life - clay vessels as creatures, quilts that seem to be growing hair. Inspired by Bauhaus design as much as botany, and invested in the manifestations of queer identity, Ak’s work creates its own living world at the intersection of different art forms and creative practices. He currently lives and works in Brooklyn, New York.
