About the Item

Artful one-of-a-kind long shelf or sculpture by artist Ben Darby. Made of various pieces of wood and accented with multi-color acrylic paint. We selected this piece soon after it was completed and as with many of Darby's artwork, this piece is a conversation piece is both beautiful and and functional. We are showing images of the shadows cast by the shelf, as this enhances the attraction to this piece. Most of the vertical pieces of wood have varying colors, also highlighted in the images. The top of the shelf shows the same colors; the colors fill the gaps on the surface. This pieces is suspended on metal butterfly clips and should be anchored to studs. Professional installation is recommended. Ben Darby is a fine artist, creator of interesting and thought provoking art. He also collaborates with scientific researchers, to illustrate our natural and yet to be catalogued or classified world. If you have traveled through Lindbergh Field Terminal I in San Diego, there is a good chance you have seen one of Darby’s paintings near a water fountain that was turned into a mural. Darby’s art can be found in private collections, all along the west coast and in various publications, such as Smithsonian and Science magazines, the New Yorker, textbooks: Life in Our Phage World and others.
