About the Item
Celadon 4 continues Chloe Hedden’s exploration of form and material in her Fold Series, where hand-dyed linen becomes both subject and medium. In this piece, a large, sculptural fold emerges like a tidal swell, draped in layers of translucent teal-green. The linen’s surface glows with depth and subtle variation, capturing light and shadow across its textured topography. Unlike static painting, this work feels alive—its fluid contours hinting at breath, movement, and softness within the stillness of the canvas. The fold suggests both a gathering and a release, embodying the quiet tension between control and surrender. With Celadon 4, Hedden invites the viewer to slow down, to feel the fabric’s weight and grace, and to consider the meditative power of simplicity made complex. It is a tactile, contemplative gesture—a moment of softness rendered monumental.
About artist:
Born in Utah (USA), Chloe Hedden looks for the unseen patterns and hidden narratives that reveal the magnificence in all things. According to the artist, there is a still point in every moment and to capture this essential luminescence is what she aims for in her practice. Chloe makes use of archetypes from the cultural and mystical history to inform her work. It is through this inspiration that she created her latest body of work comprised of intricately folded Burlap wall sculptures. A graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design in 2002, Chloe's paintings and sculptures can be found in numerous public and private collections.
Chloe Hedden
I was born and raised in Utah's wild red desert, but have had the great fortune to call many amazing places around the world my home. A graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design, I am as comfortable painting large oils as I am illustrating children’s books. In 2007, I won an International Creativity award in the category of commercial illustration for “The Peaceful Warrior.” My first children’s book, “The Illuminated Desert,” written by Terry Tempest Williams and published by the Canyonlands Natural History Association in 2008, won The Mountains and Plains Bookseller’s Award for Best Children’s Book. My paintings and sculptures can we found in numerous public and private collections around the world.
