One Step Forward edition 1/9 Abstract Bronze Sculpture
Deborah Stern (British / Florida, born 1938), bronze abstract sculpture with a curved triangular form and central void. Incised with the artist's initials, edition number 1/9, and dated 1979. Accompanied by supporting documents including the artist's biography, exhibition history with entries at Christie's Contemporary Art and the Royal Academy London, catalog materials, a literary companion authored by Desmond Sequeira, and a booklet of artist poetry related to the work.
She worked in London and Florida, studied painting with Haas-Heye in London. She also studied sculpture with Adrian Heath at Camden Arts Centre.

Artist Statement:
"My sculptures are expressions of feelings and I have a deep love affair with my work. I have no pre-conceived ideas about any piece when I start. My unconscious guides me, letting the process take me where it will. I work partly by sight, partly by exploring the surfaces by touch.
"I started my career as a painter, but switched to sculpture as I had a strong desire for the direct touch and contact with the material that expresses my work. I find the sensuousness of soft damp clay very exciting, as well as the gentle resistance of the plaster that I am carving. Cast into bronze the pieces become enhanced by the colored patina and the warm glow of the polished metal.
I frequently discover startling similarities between the forms I have created and natural objects, reminding me of the truth of Oscar Wilde's famous dictum that "nature imitates art".
If I can use a simple purity of form in my sculpture to express the joy of life, then I have succeeded."

This large sculpture 76" almost two meters tall 196cm.
Victor Salmones (1937-1989) was the most widely known sculptor living and working in Mexico during his lifetime. His sculptures won him universal acclaim and are held in the collections of museums, corporations, cities, universities and private collectors in some 30 countries. During his career, he was highly sought after and increasingly involved in the execution of commissions for major public works around the world.
Salmones developed his love and talent for creating sculptures by working with clay in high school. He attended the Instituto de Bellas Artes where he was an apprentice to the Bauhaus master, Hoffman. He was trained to use the exacting, age-old lost wax method of casting and worked principally in bronze.
His work explores styles that are both abstract and figurative and the grace and spirit inherent in his work endow his bronzes with a transcendent vitality. The international acceptance of Salmones sculpture...
