About the Item
Mixed media on wooden panel
Eric Beauplace is a French contemporary plastic artist born in 1962 who lives & works in Saint Germain-en-Laye, France. The term ‘plastic artist’ is not used here in the traditional sense. Eric Beauplace manipulates materials, creates colors and volumes, and composes, but the tools he uses are not those of a sculptor or a painter. Nothing is fixed in the works he produces; motion is constant. His works are intimately linked to the surrounding light, the movements of the viewer and of every eye that settles on them. Eric Beauplace’s wall sculptures use materials to receive light and pass it on to each other, creating an intense optical experience. The transparencies and reflections, sparkles, diffractions, and other phenomena that they produce open up many possible avenues for interpretation. Colours are born, blend and break free, patterns repeat and give rhythm to the whole. Unpredictability prolongs the work indefinitely, in a harmony of sculptural contingencies meticulously set up by the artist. As a viewer himself of what he creates, Eric Beauplace is a researcher, he experiments, observes, pursues to the end and repeats his creative processes. His work is a constant experiment that he invites the viewer to participate in. More than just conveying a message, the artist aims to arouse a sense of escape, perhaps even meditation. The artist has created a path with the viewer at the centre, walking through this changing environment, never able to completely discern what it is. A dimensional, chromatic intimacy is forged, a reflection of the visible and its slow changes. This unique, fluid and highly visual work by Eric Beauplace is experienced through contemplation and, at the risk of losing ourselves in it, enriches us with a new spirituality.

Large Mirror Sculpture; 'Sphere Mirror'
By Kelly Bugden + Van Wifvat
Located in New York, NY
The artistic collaboration of Kelly Bugden + Van Wifvat has produced a thought-provoking body of sculptures, paintings, and constructions. Nature, childhood memories, and everyday archetypes take shape in unexpected combinations of materials. The works emerged as the tactile and visual senses channeled the ritualistic power and materiality of selected artifacts. The resulting objects exist in a space between what they were originally and what they could become. A wheel, for example, is distorted as if seen through a prism. Their collaboration grew out of years of shaping materials into one-of-a-kind objects. Intuitively, the process of creating with their hands took an inward turn. Prism is a travelogue through memories and dreams, yielding abstract forms that capture moments of transformation.
Van Wifvat grew up with eight siblings and studied sculpture and environmental design in Minneapolis at MCAD. In 1979, he opened a storefront art gallery to promote the work of local artists. The space featured printed materials—art books, periodicals, fanzines, and postcard’s. Wifvat moved to New York in 1983 to study at the Fashion Institute of Technology and Parsons. In 1987, he co-founded Van Gregory & Norton design studio, specializing in convex mirrors and curtain hardware...

Anachronic, Original Abstract Sculpture, 2021
By Francisco Rosario
Located in Boston, MA
Artist Commentary:
Anachronic is a piece in a body of work exploring sound and the way that it inhabits space in the built environment. The pattern, repetition, and weaving represent the rhythm, texture, and syncopation of sound. This piece represents an envelope of sound, a finite piece of time, a controlled environment. It is heavily influenced by my time as a DJ and the practice of connecting patterns. It is about a controlled process - the merging of a creative practice with an understanding of materials and technique. In this object the marks of process are left bare, witness to the hand, craft, and labor. It is an homage to skilled work and the workers I learned from.
