About the Item

This small sculpture is made of 5 individual pieces that stack together to create a standing sculpture. Each piece is made of cut and buffed plexiglass. Colombian-born, Atlanta-based artist Esteban Patino creates paintings, collage and sculptural works that explore the multitudes of language creation and perception. Superfluous Beings is a body of work that explores the universal subconscious - imagery and representations of language that have existed in the human psyche for millenia. His collage works are composed of imaginary beings: monsters built from collage elements gathered from his environment, street signage, advertisements and art magazines. These works represent parts of Esteban’s subconscious; invented personas that transform into collective archetypes. The paintings explore rites, rituals and desires, and include imagery of plants, animals, fire, blood, pattern repetitions - symbols that we find timeless and natural. “These works are automatic - layer upon layer upon layer, bringing universal energy that aims to be timeless,” says Esteban. “Like us, these works were born without asking to be born, as if in a cave of shadows.” Esteban studied at the Instituto de Bellas Artes and Universidad Nacional in Medellín, Colombia. His work is in the collections of the High Museum of Art, Fulton County Arts and Culture Center, Microsoft Corporate Collection, among others.

"Guardian" - abstract sculpture - Barbara Hepworth
By Susan Hable
Located in Atlanta, GA
Susan Hable is inspired by the work of David Hockney, Milton Avery, Henri Matisse, Alex Katz, Howard Hodgkins, Hilma af Klint, Georgia O'Keeffe, Barbara Hepworth and Constantin Brâncuși. With humor and a bit of mischief, Susan Hable’s “Don't Pick The Flowers!” is a body of work that is at once a refuge and a playground. Inspired by her sumptuous garden just outside of her Athens studio, Susan flows from one medium to the next from painting to collage to sculpture. Susan sees her garden as a place for adventure and daydreaming, challenging her perceptions of what her Art can be. Even a weedy ground cover has caught Susan’s eye, an overlooked invasive is seen in a new light becoming a dreamlike fairytale path. Her work asks us to engage in life, go for a walk and play. Susan Hable Smith is the artist and designer behind the boldly colored and hand drawn patterns of Hable Construction...
