About the Item

Sculpture „Reflektor“ by Jörg Bach (born 1964, Wolgast - Germany) out of stainless steel, no. 2, 67 x 50 x 83 cm Primarily active as a sculptor - but not only - he creates sculptures that are titled "fruits of the soil". In his studio, square tubes are bent, welded, and assembled into uniquely curved structures that can grow from manageable dimensions to monumental sizes - or literally grow out of the ground. When one confronts them, prejudice meets a moment of surprise: a heavy, self-contained, compact to complex structure reveals a dynamic and energetic charge on closer inspection that seems as if some objects were about to burst. At first there is no resting point for the eye, only the constant scanning of the sculpture with "all senses" to find something that reminds us of one of the laws and regularities in sculpture known to us. Often we speak of an immanent "power center" in the sculptures, which becomes immediately comprehensible when we imagine the contrasts of hard material and at the same time, almost painterly curved lines. His mirroring stainless steel works, polished to a high gloss, are aptly titled "reflectors". In general, Jörg Bach's figures are not made for their surroundings or are even in his service, but interact with the space, change with it by flaking in the paint or by the Corten steel, which inevitably changes with the outside influences, or even become one with the room as with the "reflectors". As an observer one has to communicate with the sculptures, because in order to perceive them in their entirety one has the task to turn around them, to comprehend the form and to read the surface. The "reflectors" in particular go one step further by distorting the way they reflect us viewers. We - object - surrounding space become a single structure that exists for the duration of the interaction.
