Long-Term Agate
Located in Philadelphia, PA
Resin cast geodes and cracked slate in a wooden frame by Paige Smith. This piece measures 18in x 18in, with a depth of 1-5/8in. Paige Smith AKA A Common Name, is a multi-disciplinary artist and designer who lives and works in Los Angeles, CA. Smith is most notable for creating “Urban Geode,” a street art series of sculptures that resemble geodes, made entirely of paper and resin casts. Always interested in geology, Smith started to notice the nooks and crannies in the sides of buildings, walls, and abandoned phone booths within her community of the Historical Arts District (in Los Angeles). Seeing this as an opportunity to create, Smith took street-art to a whole new level. Since beginning the project, she has created large-scale installations for well-known brands such as The Standard, Hollywood; The Viper Room...

Indigo Heart 46
Located in Santa Monica, CA
Eric Johnson creates enigmatic and sensual abstract sculptures that are constructed with pigment, wood and resin. Johnson’s work seamlessly unites two traditions of Southern California art - the sleek and sexy aesthetic of the Finish Fetish movement and the organic and elegant tradition of woodworking. His handcrafted pieces are sheathed in resin skins, which often reveal glimpses of the wooden architectures encased within. Endlessly fascinated by physics and science, Johnson’s references range from cosmology and astrophysics to the human form. Johnson’s work is deeply personal - in addition to drawing inspiration from his ancestral boat-building heritage (which is Norwegian, Scottish and Cree Native...

Sylvia Schwartz, 'Brush Stroke, sculptural element in Red Plane', 2016, Resin
Located in Darien, CT
Sylvia Schwartz In her structures, silicone molds are cast from both natural and hand-made forms, including clay coils, volcanic rock patterns, seaweed, and the artist’s own fingerprints. Leaving the human trace evident through the repetition of shapes and textures in both the natural and man-made elements, provides a measure of stability, a reference point. These manmade and natural forms merge, revealing our inexplicable dependence on nature. Through this melding of two entities, new life is breathed into the art object. Paper as a primary medium allows Schwartz to sculpt, draw and paint simultaneously. The flow of the pulp (a natural phenomenon in itself) meshes with the molded forms creating a structure that seems to rest on the edge between painting and sculpture. The duality between light and heavy, interior and exterior, planned and accidental, order and chaos, leading ultimately to a sense of life. Red...

Archimedes Vortex
Located in Chicago, IL
Modern-day 3-dimensional facsimile of the 1-dimensional mathematical axis spiral found in the ancient manuscript titled the "Archimedes Palimpsest." Sculpture conveys a double entendre with its proprietary version of the universe spiraling through space, evoking Archimedes’ effort to calculate the volume of the universe. The universe is depicted via the vortex spiral and globe as supercooled and superheated, a polar opposite electrical balance of nature. An armillary sphere conveys Archimedes' math treatises on the circle, sphere and cylinder. Included are one vintage pulley and corkscrew (representing the water screw), both honoring Archimedes inventions, and one valve handle. SPECS: Spot-welded seven-foot long vintage iron chain, vintage armillary sphere...

Covered Parts 2413 - abstract geometric contemporary modern painting relief
Located in Doetinchem, NL
Covered Parts 2413 is a unique one-of-a-kind contemporary modern painting relief by Dutch artist Sander Martijn Jonker. His reliefs are made by creating a unique single-use mould in which layers of jute-reinforced acrylic resin are meticulously shaped into three-dimensional forms, sometimes more geometric, sometimes more organic. The resin in this bluish-white relief is filled with a pigmented sand, finished with a high-quality wax and nicely mounted in a bespoke beech veneered mdf frame which enables hanging in four different ways. Sander Martijn Jonker (1977, Netherlands) graduated from the St. Joost School of Art & Design in Den Bosch, The Netherlands. He primarily makes three-dimensional reliefs that play with the tension between abstraction and representation, surface and space. Light, shadow and their elusive ever-changing properties play an important role. Although the resulting works are abstract, he uses everyday reality as a starting and/or reference point. His work is created through forms of manipulation, distortion, repetition and simplification. Some works arise from the repetition of a simple movement or form, others are made by exploring how far he can go with the deformation and manipulation of the material, after which he captures and preserves the shape. He experiences daily life as uncontrollable and at times confusing. In order to cope with that, he is always looking for patterns and has gradually developed various rituals and ways of control, hoping they can offer him certainty and reassurance. His work and person are inextricably connected. He makes the things he makes because he doesn’t have a choice. He is trying to get a grip...
