Token Creek
Located in Glen Ellen, CA
Made of lightweight aluminum, this richly painted, wall-mounted sculpture is from Richard Taylor's recent "Farm" series. Each work in the series depicts an abstracted, three-dimensional, aerial view of a farm landscape and is named for a different agricultural town in the USA. In "Token Creek," Taylor uses shades of green and orange in layered patterns for the field segments, and a combination of dark and faded reds on the familiar barn and silo forms extending out over the fields. The work can be installed either horizontally, as shown in the first two images, or vertically, as shown in the last three images, and it is signed on two sides. Taylor says of his "Farm" series, "Growing up in Wisconsin left me with a love and enduring appreciation for the geometry and gentle flow of the agricultural landscape. The plowed rows of earth, parallel lines of cornstalks, and linear demarcations of crops paint a quiet, lush carpet on the native soil. Atop this rolling canvas sit groups of farm buildings in endless variations. Barns, silos, sheds, and houses form little villages in each separate farmyard. The result is unending poetry. These wall sculptures are my ode to this landscape and to its subtle but enduring beauty." Richard Taylor describes his work as a distillation of life experiences, often seen through the influences of music and poetry, with the cadences, rhythms, and syncopations resonating within and informing the spirits of his pieces. Much of Taylor's work happens in series, allowing him to pursue various ideas from multiple angles as he creates a group of work that explores several variations on a single theme. He is a sculptor, and also a painter, and his painted standing sculptures fall somewhere between painting and sculpture. Taylor's work has been shown in galleries throughout the United States for over 30 years. He has created site-specific commissions for numerous public and corporate projects including Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN; Kaiser Hospitals in California; Milwaukee Public Central Library; U.S. Robotics in Chicago, IL; the City of Beaverton, OR; City of East Lansing, MI; Hardy Ivy Park...

Circus
Located in Glen Ellen, CA
"Circus" is an abstract steel sculpture, intricately painted with layers of enamel and finished with varnish. Each section of the sculpture is a different shape, and is painted completely differently on the front and back sides for a fully three-dimensional viewing experience. The sides and base plate have a simple, natural rust patina to contrast with the beautifully detailed front and back planes. It is suitable for indoor placement or outdoor installations in temperate climates. Richard Taylor describes his work as a distillation of life experiences, often seen through the influences of music and poetry, with the cadences, rhythms, and syncopations resonating within and informing the spirits of his pieces. Much of Taylor's work happens in series, allowing him to pursue various ideas from multiple angles as he creates a group of work that explores several variations on a single theme. He is a sculptor, and also a painter, and his painted standing sculptures fall somewhere between painting and sculpture. Time plays a very essential part in his work, as they are not so much about the details of the past as they are about the essence of our remaining memories. Taylor explains, "The painted standing sculptures recall those people in my life who have shaped my character and sculpted my being through their actions, examples, and spirits. They are my sentinels; my guideposts in my walk through life." Taylor's work has been shown in galleries throughout the United States for over 30 years.
