Pisapia's "Expedition Series," inspired by sea voyages, is about meeting life’s challenges with courage and purpose. It connects to the idea expressed by J.W. Goethe: “Character is formed in the stormy billows of the world.” Taking up life’s tasks can require one to go against the wind. The feeling of determination to achieve and continue steering through obstacles is poured into the pure forms; a dynamic balancing of the straight and curve on different axes. "With a rounded starting point," Pisapia explains, "I add on a variety of disparate angles, diverse curves, and twisting planes. I carve and smooth the surfaces, bringing out particular tensions and transitions." Flavius Valone Pisapia is an Italian-Romanian artist born in Bucharest in 1981. He completed his higher education in the UK, with an MA in Transpersonal Arts & Therapy, 2014; a Diploma in Transformative Arts, 2011; and a BA (Hons) in Film and Video, 2005. Pisapia studied sculpture throughout his higher education and appreciated several sculptor mentors in the UK. Since 2016, he has resided in India, where he is currently an artist in residence at Studio Sukriti in Jaipur. He has had several solo exhibitions in India and his artwork is found in private collections worldwide. "It's important for me to experience the world at a deeper level by penetrating the veil of the senses. Through an immersive process the essence, beauty and the pure form of an idea are gradually revealed to me. The emerging awareness flows into my artwork imbuing it with a higher reality. In addition to numerous exhibition participations, including the Centre Pompidou in Paris and the Landesmuseum Österreich in St. Pölten, Austria, the Institut Français in Vienna showed a comprehensive solo exhibition of the artist in 2014. In 2017, de Ganay realized a highly acclaimed installation for the Kunsthalle Krems. de Ganay lives and works in Austria. de Ganay produces minimalist abstract art works, painting, relief and wall sculpture. Sculptures made of aluminum, linen fabric, plastic, oil painting, wood and other materials. de Ganay joins a tradition of experimental artists. In this sense, for example, the Achromes by the Italian Arte-Povera artist Piero Manzoni, created in the 1960s, point the way for de Ganay's examination of folded linen fabric. "The process of de Ganay's Painting is the process of thought itself; it is a process which turns not away from painting, but towards it. And rather than seeing painting as closure, he presents his work to us as a space of multiple openings, layers, shadows and reflections. Painting is, as much as an object or a process, a state of flux." These panels hang flush to the wall by resting on two nails on either side of the panel, and can be arranged in any number of ways, highlighting the work's sculptural element. Artist's Statement: My paintings merge the detailed textures and colors found in the natural world with the linear and geometric patterns visible in industrial and architectural structures. The interplay of these elements drives the work and provides a platform for constant change and narrative. By simultaneously layering and removing paint with rags instead of brushes, my hand is directly involved with the process. Each piece contains multiple panels that evoke a nuanced and evolving universe. Ginny Fox builds up each non-representational piece with overlapping streaks of paint that frequently span two or three panels. Working with rags instead of brushes, Fox’s hand moves along parallel paths, emergent colors cascading gently towards the edges of the composition's plane. There’s something vaporous to the outer layers of the work, the interwoven strands of color offering glimpses at the painting’s earthy base and hinting at the artist’s gradual process. Morling's ceramic sculptures have been shown internationally at Bergdorf Goodman in New York, Liberty’s London, Miami, Italy, Kuwait, Algiers, Germany and France. She has also had solo exhibitions in Sweden, The Netherlands and throughout the UK. In 2019, Katharine Morling’s work was selected for the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition. It was the fifth time that Katharine Morling has exhibited in the Summer Exhibition and “Cut”, an over-sized chainsaw is the largest piece which Morling has shown to date.
