About the Item
Quebec artist Phillipe Pallafray’s highly polished contemporary sculptures are designed to reflect light. In this intriguing tabletop piece, four stainless steel rings of varying sizes set at different angles to one another have been painted a bright turquoise blue on the interior. Pallafray favours using industrial materials forged into organic shapes to represent the natural world. Temps Zero means zero temperature in English, a scientific term that describes the spot on the thermometer where there is no heat or motion. Ironically, temps zero is said to be impossible to reach.

Phillipe Pallafray is a member of the Sculptors Society of Canada. Born in France, he emigrated to Canada ten years ago and currently lives in Ile d’Orléans, Québec. He uses steel and stainless steel that he cuts, shapes, folds, and welds. Pallafray's sculptures have been exhibited in Canada and the United States as part of group and solo exhibitions. They are also part of public and private collections in Canada, France and the United States.

Philippe Pallafray
Philippe Pallafray is a member of the Sculptors Society of Canada. He worked for 15 years in fine arts in France before immigrating to Canada. In 2005, he established a studio on Île d'Orléans, Québec. Pallafray integrates polished stainless steel with natural and man-made materials to create provocative indoor and outdoor sculptures. His work is designed to represent the duality of nature and the industrial world.
“What is removed from the sculptures, the voluntary emptiness, recalls the ephemeral and fragile nature of life,” Pallafray has said.
Pallafray has exhibited in the U.S., France and Canada at the John B. Aird Gallery, the Artist Project Toronto, Alliance Française de Toronto and the McMichael Canadian Art Collection. In 2016, he was artist-in-residence at Saint-Georges de Beauce, where he was commissioned to create the sculpture Aquagraphie. Pallafray’s work is held in private and public collections in North America and France.
