This bronze sculpture depicts a severed branch from a plane tree. Crafted entirely in bronze, the work features a patina that closely mimics the appearance of natural bark, while certain sections are hollowed out and polished to reveal a striking golden finish. The artist has achieved an impressively lifelike rendering of tree bark. The textures emerge from the casting process, and the rich coloration is the result of carefully applied patinas. By altering this otherwise ordinary object, Romain Langlois transforms it—imbuing it with a rare and precious quality that both captivates and challenges our perception.
Romain Langlois is widely recognized for his distinctive bronze sculptures, which often resemble stone or wood. Yet his practice goes beyond technical mastery: by replicating elements sourced from nature, he infuses them with poetic resonance, elevating the mundane to something exceptional. His works are included in significant art collections (Matmut, Fondation Bullukian) and have been exhibited in renowned institutions such as the Musée des Arts Décoratifs (Paris, 2017). They are also the focus of major international commissions.

Romain Langlois
Romain Langlois has become known for his unique bronze sculptures, to which he gives an appearance of a rock or wood. His work is not limited to this technical virtuosity: by reproducing objects that he takes from nature, he introduces a poetic twist that rises the ordinary to the rank of extraordinary. His artworks are part of major art collections (Matmut, Fondation Bullukian) and they have been exhibited in museums such as the Musée des Arts Décoratifs (Paris, 2017). They are also the subject of ambitious international commissions. “Everything is living, everything is moving, everything is changing. However, life cannot always show its best side; sometimes you have to root it out. This is what I am trying to do with my sculptures, gently, discreetly: to search for the life and expose it to those who are going to view them.’’
