Sarah Alexander
"Ringmaster", Contemporary, Hammered Steel, Whimsical, Sculpture, 2019

About the Item

Sarah Alexander's Ringmaster is a 43.5 x 26 x 20 inch (with stand) steel sculpture that comes with an unattached whimsical stand resembling stork-like legs. Without the stand the sculpture measures 26 x 26 x 20 inches. This playful grassy shape is made from hand hammered steel with a clear coating over unpainted steel. Marks have been engraved onto the steel with touches of a blue patina made from a torch. This sculpture casts beautiful shadows that give the sculpture life and movement. Alexander has brought her drawings from 2-D to 3-D form in this series from her exhibit titled Anywhere, Anywhere, I don't Know, depicting an internal landscape which could be from anywhere. The signature is engraved on the piece. Alexander likes to approach the same subject using differing materials to see how it transforms the narrative of the subject. A grassy seed ball drawn with pen and ink or painted in watercolor, feels very different when “drawn” with steel. Alexander is represented by Fountain Street Gallery based in Boston, MA.
