About the Item
This contemporary marine sculpture by Andrzej Szymczyk depicts a Discus Fish and is expertly cast in bronze. The free standing piece is finished with a serene green coating, a hue reminiscent of its natural ocean environment, and features impressively realistic anatomical details. The choice of this beautiful colour compliments the subject matter. The colour reflects a natural elements whilst still staying true to the capabilities of the medium. The artist has applied exquisite intricacy in describing the beautiful form and structure of the aquatic animal to create a highly desirable work of art. This original sculpture is limited edition of 15 and hand signed by the artist ready to be displayed.
Artist Bio:
Andrzej graduated with an MA degree in Fine Arts in the faculty of Sculpture from The Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow in 2012. He also studied at The Newcastle University at the department of Fine Art from 2010 till 2011. He moved to London in December 2012 and became a member of the Bow Arts Trust in June 2013. He has exhibited in Poland, Germany and now the UK. From concept to completion Andrzej’s sculpture is created and finished entirely by Andrzej. He casts his own bronze and applies and finishes his own carefully chosen patinas. He is truly an artist of perfection.
“I have practiced Judo since I was 7 and have competed at high international levels. The discipline has a significant impact on every aspect of my personality. The mindset of judo is also the way in which I approach my life. For me it means dealing with problems and tasks in resourceful manners and never settling for anything less than the absolute best. In terms of my sculpture, I require myself to be perfect at every stage along the way to completing a finished piece. Andrzej Szymczyk
In hyperrealistic figurative bronze sculptures and other works that draw on marine life and the human form, Polish artist Andrzej Szymczyk demonstrates extreme precision and attention to detail in his endeavors to interpret the wonders and fragility of nature.
Born in 1972 in Krakow, Szymczyk studied at Newcastle University’s Fine Arts Department from 2010 to 2011 before earning an MA degree in Fine Arts in Sculpture from the Academy of Fine Arts in his native city in 2012. Later that year, he moved to London and became a member of the Bow Arts Trust in 2013 and a member of the Royal Society of Marine Artists.
As a keen diver, many of Szymcyzk’s still-life sculptures, such as his intricate Siamese Fighter, Devil Firefish and Seahorse Couple, were influenced by his visits to Madagascar while exploring the country’s stunning coral reefs. His work isn’t relegated to depictions of marine life, however. Nude sculptures such as his Warrior Woman of Kau created in his studio in London’s East End explore the essence of female strength and power.
Szymczyk has exhibited his sculptures at galleries and exhibitions throughout Poland, the UK and Germany. His works are highly sought by collectors and interior designers.
