Charles Cary Rumsey
Sculpture of a Polo Player Harrison Tweed by Charles Rumsey

1912

About the Item

Polo Pony and Rider Harrison Tweed . Charles Rumsey was an 8 goal polo player with Meadowbrook Polo Club on Long Island NY. He was an avid sportsman, equestrian and artist. His absolute knowledge of horses anatomy and movement gave him the ability to depict the horse, and the rider in perfect form. He was often commissioned by some of the finest riders and horse owners to translate their horses into bronze. Harrison Tweed was one of those polo players who commissioned Charles Rumsey to depict him on one of his favorite polo ponies. The work of Charles Rumsey (1879-1922) remains in sporting collections around the world as well as in many of the finest Museums in the world, including the Museum of Modern Art NYC, The Metropolitan Museum of Art NYC.
