About the Item

Betsy Enzensberger sculpts works that create a visceral longing and remembrance of the most nostalgic delights from childhood. The artist uses the familiarity of those sweet treats to help us remember the simplicity, value and culture of desserts so often associated with positivity and joy. Enzensberger was born and raised in New York. She graduated from Tulane University and is now a Los Angeles-based artist with a studio in Mar Vista. She has shown with galleries domestically in Los Angeles, Miami, Des Moines and New York, and internationally in Hong Kong, London, Stockholm, Hamburg and Byron Bay, Australia. You can find her sculptures in multiple public and private art collections. Betsy Enzensberger has become quite well known for her realistic, larger-than-life sculptures of dripping, frozen treats. Resin looks like candy. It appears delicious and sweet. The shiny exterior has a wet, melting quality. Her Tragically Sweet series plays with the desires of everyone’s inner child. The lure of sweet, sticky popsicles artificially instills intense longing. The colorful confections practically beg to be rescued and consumed. “Resin - I love it. It’s beautiful, sexy, mysterious. It’s also toxic, messy, and annoyingly exhausting to create. However, I enjoy the challenges that resin presents. There’s just something about it I can’t resist. If the process was easy, I wouldn’t be doing it.” – Betsy Enzensberger

"The Sweet Life Sculptures “Lollipops and Popsicles” Lollipops remind us about naughty and careless childhood when we crave sweets. The bright colors of the sculptures celebrate life and bring smiles. I overstate candies that lure, charm, tease, disarm and surprise. Through the use of scale, color, and intensity in the forms, the lollipops we take for granted become aesthetically pleasing and seductive in atypical ways. My colorful, entertaining and impeccably produced lollipops activate the cravings people have for the things that give them pleasure and force them to surrender The sensual nature of the works stimulate basic human needs that generate desires and passion, they show society’s striving for fulfillment and happiness through possession of things that end in dependency. Bulatova exhibits full-time at her namesake galleries Elena Bulatova...

  • A Moveable Occurrence in Time
    By Jay Riggio

The piece measures 14" x 11.5" x 1.5". Jay Riggio, a self-taught visual artist, was born in Long Island, New York in 1978.
