Contemporary Stainless Steel Sculpture-Unique work - Tree is not Wood #2

2021

About the Item

Stainless Steel Sculpture by Chen Zhiguang Title: Tree is not Wood #2 Material: Stainless Steel Dimension: 92 x 104 x 48 cm Date: 2021 About the artwork: Bonsai (Potted landscape) can be seen as the metaphor of human’s desire: You have to constantly pruned during the growth of organism inside the pot. This gest deprives a part of the life essence of the tree, making it a cold and deformed bonsai that conforms to people's standardized aesthetics. "Tree is not wood" series works restore the details of bonsai in the form of stainless steel. Each of the bulges and sections implies the tension brought by the control. This form of competition makes it shine like a diamond under the light, just like the fresh and humble power of life shining in the cruel reality.—Chen Zhiguang About the artist: Chen Zhiguang (born 1963 in Xiamen, China) is one of China’s most renowned sculptors and installation artists. He graduated from the Fine Arts Institute of Fujian University in 1988 and is currently a member of the Standing Committee of the China Sculpture Association, the Central Academy of Fine Arts of the City of Design School in China (Beijing) and a visiting professor at the Modern Art School of the Tianjin Academy of Fine Arts. Since 2006, he has participated in international exhibitions in the USA, France, Germany and Sweden. The artist lives and works in Beijing and Fuzhou in Fujian Province, which celebrates its 33rd partnership anniversary with Rhineland-Palatinate in 2022. His art is about ants and ancient trees, both important themes in traditional Chinese philosophy. But after a closer look at his works, it becomes clear that Chen Zhiguang creates in his art a parable for life in the state, as it were. The depictions of gnarled, old tree trunks, which are formulated in Chen Zhiguang’s work as paintings, watercolours and sculptures, also symbolise the connection with nature, especially with the idea of literary gardens, which is held in particularly high esteem in traditional Chinese culture. Tree trunks, stalks and root systems show themselves as the energy centre of evolution. His artworks are held in numerous collections worldwide including National Art Museum of China, Rotterdam Kunsthal Art Museum, Kunsthochschule Kassel, Taiwan contemporary Art Museum, Shanghai Art Museum, Museumm of Contemporary Art Chengdu, Suzhou Museum, etc;.

Ceramic Gold-Plating Sculpture-Series Animal Zodiac- Rat
Located in Beijing, CN
The sculpture is signed and numbered. Edition 20/99. About the Artwork: The Chinese Zodiac can’t be ignored in the traditional culture of China. It’s closely interconnected with the social customs and habits, the aesthetic taste and the opinion of value. The Twelve animals of Year represent the traditional Chinese wisdom that the laws of Nature governs all things and that man must seek harmony with Nature. I created this Series of twelve zodiac animals made of gold and pottery, trying to give the “zodiac”-this long-standing cultural symbols a meaning of the prosperity and the luckiness. –He Wenjue About the artist: He Wenjue was born in 1970 in Hunan Province, China.
