Eugène Laurent (1832-1898) was a French sculptor known for his classical and figurative works, particularly in bronze and marble.
Here's a summary of his artistic career and style:
Training and Early Career: Laurent studied sculpture under Théodore Coinchon (1814-1881). He began regularly participating in the Salon of French Artists, quickly building a strong reputation.
Style and Subjects: He was known for his classical subjects, often depicting mythological figures, allegories, and everyday life with an academic and realistic approach. He also created portrait busts of notable figures. His works often showcase a detailed and refined execution, characteristic of late 19th-century French sculpture.
Notable Works: Some of his significant works include:
Public monuments like the Jacques Callot monument in Nancy (1877).
The François Boucher statue at the Paris City Hall.
Figures of "Diana the Huntress" (Jagdgöttin Diana).
"Jeanne d'Arc" (Joan of Arc), often depicting her receiving her divine revelations.
Other popular subjects include "La Pêcheuse" (The Fisherwoman), "Psyche," "La Fileuse" (The Spinner), and various depictions of children and allegorical figures.
Materials: While he created works in marble, a significant portion of his output was in bronze, often featuring beautiful patinas. Some of his works also incorporated other materials like ivory.
Exhibitions: He regularly exhibited at the Paris Salon from 1861 to 1893, which was the premier art exhibition in France during that period.
Eugène Laurent's sculptures are found in private collections and have been regularly sold at auction, reflecting his enduring appeal as a respected academic sculptor of the 19th century.

Josef Lorenzl (1 September 1892 – 15 August 1950) was an Austrian sculptor and ceramicist of the Art Deco period.
While at the Vienna Arsenal, Lorenzl produced many bronze and chryselephantine sculptures, and captivated by the female form he became famed for his shapely dancing girls with long, elegant legs and closed eyes. These pieces of his were signed "Enzl", "Lor", "R. Lor", "Renz" or "Renzl". Occasionally the name "Crejo" appears on his pieces, Crejo having been a painter and one of Lorenzl's friends, and who sometimes applied colour to the pieces. These joint works are sought-after items. The large majority of Lorenzl's figurines were attached to Brazilian green onyx plinths.
Lorenzl's talents also extended to being a gifted ceramicist. He produced pieces for Goldscheider, working from a studio on company grounds. As with his chryselephantine pieces, his ceramic works were in great demand and became the embodiment of the Art Déco period. Famous amongst these is "The Butterfly Girl" after the famous dancer Niddy Impekoven...
