About the Item

Ex Nihilo Fragment 7 is a detail from the full-scale plaster from the final stone sculpture of Ex Nihilo, commissioned as part of the Creation Sculptures at Washington National Cathedral. Bronze editions were made later and authorized by Washington National Cathedral. Fragment 7 is edition number 59 out of 65. This is the last Fragment 7 that was made at the foundry. There will be no more made. If you are looking for stunning, and authentic artwork by Frederick Hart, then this is it. This sculpture's impressive craftsmanship and size are second to none, making it truly one of his most stunning and desirable bronze sculptures ever. The torso of a nude woman emerging in relief from the bronze background is designed with Hart's fascinating genius, decorated with intricate detail, and finished with a fabulous patina, as he pays tribute to the creation of humankind. The base of the sculpture is slightly damaged with scuff marks and nicks. We have attached photos of these imperfections in the base but the bronze itself is in perfect condition. "I saw Ex Nihilo (Out of Nothingness) as a single expression of creation, as a metamorphosis of divine spirit and energy. The figures emerge from the nothingness of chaos, caught in the moment of eternal transformation - the majesty and mystery of divine force in a state of becoming." -Frederick Hart
