About the Item

" Vertical Position N.1 " by Laurent Belloni (né En 1969) Bronze cast with a nuanced black patina Signed "Belloni" on the base Foundry mark "Susse fondeur Paris", and foundry stamp "Resyrgam" numbered 1/8 France 1996 height : 91 cm width : 28 cm depth : 32 cm Exhibition : « L’Art en Marche », Hôtel du Département de la Vendée, La Roche-sur-Yon, 1997. Biography : Laurent Belloni, born in 1969, is a French sculptor. He studied for four years the techniques of bronze, and is graduated from chasing and bronze mounting. He spent six years in various workshops of the Susse Foundry in Paris. Laurent Belloni presented his works in numerous group and solo exhibitions since 1995 in France and Belgium. He participated in sculpture symposia in Lebanon in 2001 and in Bahrain in 2003. The sculptures of Laurent Belloni are strained to an abstract dimension, not anecdotal. They do not tell stories, do not address topics, not show any theme. In this work, the anatomy becomes more schematic; it serves as a minimum context of event space, support. His treatment is in line with a more direct apprehension and brightest affects. In his first sculptures, energy is externalized, overflowing. It is given in its exuberant entirety. However, it is broken and contained in the most recent. Each of its rooms is sort of a condensed life. The sculpture of Laurent Belloni is stimulating, it mobilizes. (Text taken from "The tension of becoming," David Lollia, exhibition at the Hotel du Vendée department, 1997)

  • Antique Bronze Dog Portrait of a Cavalier King Charles "Thigley" circa 1905
    Located in SANTA FE, NM
Antique Bronze Dog Portrait of a Cavalier King Charles "Thigley" French School (possibly Franck Burty Haviland) Lost wax bronze casting Circa 1910 5 7/8 x 9 x 3 1/4 A sophisticated bronze casting of a Cavalier King Charles spaniel made in lost wax casting (cire perdue) from the beginning of the 20th century by Valsuani Foundry. This an unusual bronze approached in its aesthetic that’s reminiscent of the work of great animal sculptors of the second half of the 19th century except in this presentation which is more avant-garde for the time with a much looser, more impressionistic execution. The patina is a superb bronze color, brown and slightly greenish, going in places towards a more antique green. The attitude of the dog is extremely well and sensitively rendered with the placement of material unlike the renderings of a bronze by Barye...
