About the Item

Marcus Egli does not call himself a sculptor, but a metalworker. His encounter with aluminum occurred in the 1980s, when he and his wife bought a small business manufacturing hardware parts. There he cultivated the know-how necessary for the handling of this capricious metal of which he likes so much the liquid material, the lightness, the soft color with a discreetly bluish shine and the conductivity which makes it possible to feel the heat and the energy of the one who uses it. touch.... These works are very often variations around the motif of the «Hominium», a small figurine with a stiff posture and a polished face which reflects the image of the person looking at it and of the world around it. He plays on the contrast of materials, the raw and rough aspect of the body combined with the smooth. Marcus Egli stages his «Hominium», collects them, conditions them. He creates loose or dense crowds, blocks, portrait galleries. Marcus Egli thus questions our relationship to the world, our relationship to history. His stagings, often close to the installation, address the themes of the absurd, anonymity, multitude and loneliness. They send back to us the image of our own existence. A temporality frozen in metal and moving in its image. Her mirror games are also role-playing games where everyone can find themselves or get lost.
