About the Item

Engraved Art Deco Panther Panel by N.R. Brunet (20th Century, France) A striking and seldom-seen example of Art Deco artistry, this richly engraved wood panel by French sculptor N.R. Brunet (20th Century) captures a pair of panthers prowling through lush underbrush. Known primarily for his celebrated bronze sculptures of cats and wild felines, Brunet's work in carved wood is scarce—making this piece a unique and rare discovery. Deeply incised with anatomical precision, the panthers' sleek forms and muscular tension are accentuated by golden pigment, enhancing both texture and depth across the surface. The dynamic composition evokes movement and mystery, true to the elegance and stylization of the Art Deco period. Signed N.R. Brunet at the lower right corner, the panel is beautifully presented in its original waxed oak frame, carved to complement the organic energy of the artwork. Measurements: With frame: 27.57 in wide (70 cm) by 20.88 in high (53 cm) by 2 in deep (5 cm). View size: 21.50 in wide (54.5 cm) by 14.38 in high (36.5 cm). Reference: N.R. Brunet was a French artist and sculptor active during the Art Deco period. N.R. Brunet's work is firmly rooted in the Art Deco style, known for its geometric shapes, luxurious materials, and stylized designs. He created bronze sculptures and hand-carved panels, with a strong focus on animal subjects, especially panthers. One notable piece is a "Panthère à l'arret" (panther at rest). Some of his bronze sculptures were produced by the Susse Frères foundry in Paris, which is a well-known name in bronze casting.
