About the Item

Jericho Mask is a bronze, iron and removable iron powder sculpture by contemporary artist Romain Langlois, dimensions are 56 cm × 23 cm × 25 cm (22 × 9.1 × 9.8 in). The sculpture is signed and numbered, it is part of a limited edition of 8 editions + 4 artist’s proofs, and comes with a certificate of authenticity. In this sculpture Romain Langlois, is making a reference to the Jericho skull. The skull is made of highly polished bronze, which confers to it a golden aspect with glints of light. The black material covering the skull is iron powder, which reacts magnetically with the surface of the sculpture thus changing its appearence. The iron powder come separately in a jar and can be placed on the sculpture by the collector. The original Jericho skull found in Palestine dates back to the 7th century B.C. It is considered to be the earliest piece of anthropomorphic art. Early works by Romain Langlois from the late 2000s had a figurative aesthetic and emphasized depicting the human body. He surrounded himself with anatomy books, carefully studied them, and used them to further his education and gain technical mastery. These solid foundations gave him the confidence to transition into abstract sculpture, producing a number of rocks and other natural elements that have received genuine acclaim.
