About the Item

CARMELO CAPPELLO (Ragusa, 1912 - Milano, 1996) La birichina (The Mischievous girl), 1949 Bronze, height 96cm Unique piece, signed and dated on the base "C.Cappello/1949". Also on the base engraved indication of the specimens (1 of 2) and hallmark of the Fonderia Artistica Battaglia, Milan Bibliography: Cappello, by D.Formaggio, Gorlich Editore Milan, 1953, p 41 We can admire in these images and in the video a splendid sculpture by Carmelo Cappello, made in 1949, a unique piece (1 of 2), wittily entitled La birichina (The Mischievous girl). Cappello, born in Ragusa in Sicily in 1912, moved to Milan in 1930, where he began to work and where he received his first recognitions. Above all, it is worth mentioning the six invitations to the Venice Biennale and the seven participations in the Rome Quadrennial, which sanction the importance and far-sightedness of his work as an artist. The work, dated 1949 as mentioned, is well representative of Cappello's last figurative phase, which always manages, in a unique way, to represent plastically ironic and innovative figures. Carmelo Cappello died in Milan in 1996. The sculpture features the signature, date, edition number (1 of 2), hallmark of the historic Fonderia Artistica Battaglia in Milan and is positioned on a green quartz base, which does not appear to have been conceived by the artist. The sculpture weighs 17 kilos, while the base weighs 45 kilos. The measurement of 87 cm refers only to the bronze sculpture, without the base. If the buyer does not want the base, we will take care of procuring a suitable one, in the shape of a wooden parallelepiped. This will significantly affect shipping costs. Shipping will be arranged by our Gallery or 1stDibs. Shipping costs and additional taxes relating to importation into non-Eur countries will be borne by the buyer, subject to agreements. The Studiolo gallery issues a certificate of authenticity and according to the law and in the light of its thirty years of activity and experience. Guido Cribiori director of the Studiolo Gallery
