Cesare Monti
Fatale

About the Item

CESARE MONTI (Brescia, 1891 - Bellano, 1959) Fatale, 1956 Oil on cavans, 78x40 cm Signed on lower left "C.Monti" Cesare Monti was born in Brescia in 1891. In 1906, at the age of only fifteen, he was sent by his father to Paris to learn the trade of coiffeur, but the young Monti was more struck by the artistic environment, at that time full of extraordinary stimuli and innovations. In 1912 he moved to Milan and became part of the nascent artistic movement. From 1920 to 1950 he exhibited fourteen times at the Venice Biennale - in 1940 with a personal room of thirty-eight works. His style, initially linked to the return to order, evolved chromatically after the Second World War until it reached a new maturity and an expressiveness of great decorative taste; nevertheless his great portraiture ability is renewed and reaches an extremely modern communicative ability. He died in Bellano, near Lake Como, in 1959. * * * This work, entitled "Fatale", shows how his evolution has led him to know how to represent the sensuality of female forms with extreme ease and effectiveness. Monti skilfully plays with colors, boldly combining purple and bright red. The face has a memory of Modigliani's work, which so fascinated little Monti during his first trip to Paris. Studiolo manages the Cesare Monti Archive in Milan and is the Artist's reference Gallery. The work is therefore registered in the Archive under number CM517. The frame in which it is presented is made by our craftsmen. Shipping will be arranged by our Gallery or 1stDibs. • Portrait of a noblewoman
    Located in Roma, RM
Artist: Pietro Lucchini Title: Portrait of a noblewoman (1843) Medium: oil on canvas Signature: Signed and dated in the center on the right “P.ro Luchini made Milan 1843” The freshness of colour and refinement of the composition, governed by a technically impeccable drawing and the adoption of a clear, luminous palette, are the main characteristics of this Portrait of a Biedermeier-style noblewoman. The minuteness of the details emphasising the décor and the description of the surroundings and clothing serve to clarify the rank of the woman portrayed. This aristocratic portrait makes Lucchini a true portraitist à la mode, in demand and acclaimed especially in the Lombardy region, but also internationally. In fact, the author's experience in the East is not to be forgotten: in 1850, he received an offer to teach painting at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Bologna, but declined the offer to leave for Constantinople, where he arrived in 1851. He stayed in the East for another ten years, working mainly in Constantinople, Egypt and the court of the Shah of Persia. He worked mainly on official portraiture, adopting the same technical expertise that distinguished him in his Italian years. First canvas painting but with strip line On the back of the canvas, 3 small repairs are visible at the top original coeval frame UV lamp...
