Movement in bronze
You can rightly call Romee Kanis an old acquaintance of the gallery, her work was regularly seen at the gallery until a few years ago. We restore this tradition in honor. We met Romee for the first time by chance. She herself stood at a beautiful and well-visited art fair with her own sculptures. It was immediately a nice contact. We see her stylish, almost moving images as a beautiful addition to the collection of sculptures that we regularly exhibit.
Romee Kanis models her sculptures in Schermerhorn, on the photo you can see how she is sculpting a portrait, by living model. Her workshop is in St Maartensbrug. Here she makes garden images in large format, her wax models, the molds for the bronze in the casting, and here she finally finishes the casting. Patienting is also done by Romee herself. Eventually the image is mounted on a pedestal by her. By doing everything herself she has been able to carry out her own hand and idea everywhere. That makes her work very personal. During a visit to her studio we can view many images that Romee herself has in her garden or exhibition space. As if we walk around in a candy store, we indicate what we would like to exhibit at the opening exhibition.

Looking at the images of Romee Kanis I think of a statement by Wim van der Kant about his images. He said that he saw when an image of a woman was made by a woman or by a man. When I see the images of Romee Kanis, I see her female hand. It is not about the ideal image, it is about the graceful movement. The feminine and graceful forms are incorporated in the movements. Nice to recognize that!
