The bright and bold colours of the butterflies make this a joyful piece. Olsen’s use of perspex allows for work to fit sleekly into any interior. Michael Olsen says: My working life has lead me down numerous paths. Retailing medicines through my Pharmacy business in the early years to creating the 1st UK Pet superstore in 1990 and more recently operating a coffee shop, I’ve almost always enjoyed how I’ve earned my living. Having spent the greater part of my 74 years making things simply for pleasure or for practical purposes, more recently I’ve been able to allow my artistic impulses develop. What was a hobby has now become a full time and gratifying venture. I enjoy the simple, beautiful things that life has to offer – family, love, the outdoors (cycling through it), music (better heard through a needle) and time spent happily with others as well as alone – all of which inspire me to try to create things to enhance the enjoyment of life. I’ve always been fascinated by nature and in particular butterflies. To me, there is something captivating about that moment when a butterfly stops to allow an onlooker to admire its form. Using this as my stimulus I wanted to see if I could create something that was both contemporary and visually stimulating. The focal point of Bertlmann´s practice lays within the playground of gender and social issues, as can be seen in Knife-rose, an edition of 50 hand-blown Murano glass roses. Created by San Jose based glass artist, Treg Silkwood, the "Smokey Grey Nautilus" is an intricate sculpture of a seashell created entirely out of glass. Using layers of grey, ochre and white pigment, Treg masterfully captures the intricate details that are typically found on a nautilus. This breathtaking piece measures 13"h x 11"w x 5"d  and comes with a custom metal stand affixed with a rubber coating to ensure stability of the sculpture. About the Artist: Treg Silkwood is a glass artist whose career spans over three decades. He is recognized as a premier California Marine Artist and one of the foremost artists working in glass. Taking inspiration from walks along the California coast, Treg’s artwork explores his fascination with the many species of shells and natural objects he’s collected from his excursions. In response to these elegant forms, Treg creates blown glass sculptures that not only enrich his appreciation for the intricate complexities of the natural world but also form a personal connection to a place which he calls home. Treg has a BFA in glass from Alfred University and studied abroad at the Academy of Applied Arts in Prague, where he learned Czech mold-making and coldworking techniques. Post graduation, Treg worked as a glass blower recreating Early American Glassware at Greenfield Village, within The Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, MI.
