About the Item

The Gem Tree, Original Contemporary Mixed Media Sculpture 26" x 31" x 19" (HxWxD) Wood, Wire, Crystal Beads Artist Todd McCollister has created a 3D surrealist scene out of wood and metal. A wooden wave encloses around a lone tree that is dotted with crystal foliage. A ladder extends from the interior of this wave and up and out of a small hole, leading to a slanted wooden platform. Though accessible, the tree remains nestled and tucked away, almost unreachable. Artist Commentary: The precious thing is never easy to find. About the Artist: Like life, Todd McCollister's work puts ordinary characters in extraordinary situations. Many of them are explorers or adventurers, like all of us out in the world trying to achieve goals or rewards without clear rules and directions. They bravely face isolation, defeat, adversity, and success. They might even be absent, for the moment, from their own story. Some of their tasks may be puzzling, some are done badly, and some are alarmingly adept. Most have a sincere optimism that comes from fairy tales, magic realism, and old-fashioned legends. McCollister earned a BFA in Sculpture and Photography in 1996 from Texas Christian University and an MFA in Sculpture in 2000 from Stony Brook University. He then moved to New York City, first pursuing Sculpture and shifting to Furniture in 2006. In 2014 he brought what he learned back to his hometown of Omaha, NE, and founded Long Grain Furniture. Since the Pandemic, his focus has shifted back to Sculpture, his first passion. He is an active member of the Omaha art community and believes in supporting his fellow artists as a path to everyone’s success. He’s currently running a monthly event series called “Final Fridays at Todd’s,” aimed at bringing the Omaha art community together to make us all stronger, through networking and sharing experience and information.

I Hope He Knows the Way Home, Original Contemporary Narrative Wooden Sculpture 14" x 24" x 50" (HxWxD) Wood, String, Plastic, Clear Finish This wooden sculpture by artist Todd McCollister features a sleek and modern design with smooth, undulating platforms that meet at dynamic angles that complement the organic figure of the elephant that is descending the staircase. Artist Commentary: Sometimes, after very bad things, there is magic. I woke up with one surviving image from a rich and elaborate dream. A horse, saddled but riderless, badly burned, was descending stairs, almost home. Around his neck was a beautiful string of fish...

Mogan David - Original Abstract Wood Sculpture
Located in Boston, MA
Mogan David 42.0 x 4.0 x 3.0, 17.0 lbs Wood Founder's stamp Artist's Commentary: "The maple lines emanate from the maple border in a purpleheart background and intersect to create the subtle Mogan David (Jewish star). I work with wood like a painter works with oils and a sculptor with stone. From a distance, lines, shapes, contours and shadows are easily seen but when you move from side to side, the change in perspective alters the image like the features of a face when it turns. If a light source moves, shadows in the piece move with it like the sun moving across a landscape. As you approach the piece, shallow contours appear like swells on a lake and intricate patterns emerge. You can't help but touch the smooth flowing surface to feel the highly finished solid wood. The furniture grade modified tung oil allows that. It also makes my art easy to clean if necessary. The lines and shapes in my art are the natural colors of solid wood joined along curves. No inlays, veneers, dyes or stains are used." About the Artist: Marc Lamm is a self-taught wood-artist who has been art since 1973. In 1996, he began developing techniques which he uses in his art. In 2011, he began making wood-wall-sculptures and has pieces in Mayo...

Listening at the Cliffside, Original Contemporary Wooden Mixed Media Sculpture
Located in Boston, MA
Listening at the Cliffside, Original Contemporary Wooden Mixed Media Sculpture 20" x 65" x 42" (HxWxD) Wood, Stone, String, Brass Bell, Glass Bottle, Clear Finish In this highly conceptual work, artist Todd McCollister has combined a myriad of elements to depict a narrative scene that makes the viewer pause. Inspired by historical elements, the work explores space, structure, and sound. A small boat-shaped after shave bottle serves as a floating element beneath a brass bell. A wall of undulating wood creates the cliffside, while more delicate beams of wood jut behind the piece, somehow evoking both fragility and the integrity of industrial engineering at work. Artist Commentary: This piece started as a reference to the "acoustic mirror" listening stations on the southeast coast of England. These huge concrete parabolic reflectors focus sound to a small point. During the second world war, the British posted soldiers at the focus of each one, where they would listen for German boats...
