Pair of French Louis XVI Period Gilt Bronze and Agate Vases

These truly exceptional and rare antique Louis XVI period vases have been sculpted from agate, a precious and highly sought-after stone. The vases are set on square agate bases with gilt bronze laurel wreath socles. The burgundy and claret agate bodies of the vases are mounted with gilt bronze acanthus leaf ornamentation, and twin lion masks joined by draped swags above. The lids of the vases are mounted with gilt bronze, surmounted by pine cone finials.
The vases' design is attributed to the late 18th century, French clockmaker Martin Baffert. Baffert worked with a number of Parisian bronziers including Jean-Nicholas Fremont, Nicolas-Guillaume Jourdan and Francois-Robert Leguel, who assisted in the creation of his designs. This pair of vases is very similar to another pair of vases which Baffert designed, which form part of a clock garniture currently in the Rothschild collection at Waddesdon Manor. This is a hard paste porcelain waste or slop bowl by New Hall in a hand painted Chinoiserie figure pattern No. 20, dating to the late 18th century, circa 1790.
The bowl is well potted on a mid depth foot.
The decoration is hand-painted using bold enamels in a charming chinoiserie figure pattern, number 20, showing a Lady with a parasol being presented a flower by a young man, all by a fence in a garden setting. The inner rim has a repeated border pattern and the inside base has a hand painted flower bud sprig which is worn and faded.
This is a recorded New Hall pattern No 20.

A remarkable and highly important pair of Empire gilt-bronze and cut-crystal six-light candelabra attributed to Escalier De Cristal De Paris.

This exceptional pair of candelabra can almost certainly be attributed to the workshops of l'Escalier de Cristal de Paris. They relate in particular to a dressing table and chair, now in the collection of the Louvre, which formed part of a toilette suite that was exhibited by L'Escalier de Cristal at the 1819 Paris exhibition of the Produits de l'industrie. The present candelabra may very likely have been made as part of this suite.

This is a fine porcelain Shell Dish, beautifully hand painted in pattern 3884 and made by H & R Daniel of London Road, Stoke, Staffordshire Potteries, England.
Pieces by H & R Daniel are beautifully decorated and sought after, being very expensive when first made.
The dish is quite large and well potted with an embossed raised moulded design to the upper outer rim section. The pattern is called Ribbon & Wreath, pattern number 3884 and is fully recorded as an H & R Daniel pattern. It is finely hand painted with individual flower sprigs, with a gold gilded inner rim edging.
The dish has 3884 hand painted in red on the inner foot rim.

NOTES: H & R DANIEL
Henry Daniel (1765-1841) was an enameller and colour maker. Prior to setting up his own manufactory in 1822 he ran a business within the Spode II* factory from at least 1805 to August 1822.
In 1822, Henry formed his own business. Richard (1800-1884) Henry’s second son was officially made a partner in 1826. The manufactory known as H & R Daniel continued until 1846 when it ceased due to insolvency.

This exceptional antique Edwardian 9ct rose gold cigarette case has a plain rectangular form with rounded corners.
This antique case has a subtly curved form proffering a comfortable fit in the majority of pockets.
The anterior cover is ornamented with an impressive enamel panel depicting four jockeys riding horses in a race, with stands full of spectators in the background.
The enamel panel is further embellished with the caption 'Cambridgeshire 1902'.
