Antique French Gilt Bronze and Lapis Lazuli Mantel Clock after Falconet
By Étienne Maurice Falconet
Located in London, GB
French sculptor Etienne-Maurice Falconet (1716-1791) is the inspiration for this beautiful, sumptuous mantel clock. His clock, crafted in the late 18th Century and now on display at the Louvre Museum, caused such a stir when it was exhibited over 100 years later, at the Great Exhibition in Paris in 1900 that one reviewer claimed that it "attracted so much admiration from the crowds gathered around that the pressure was sufficient at times to endanger its safety." As well as this famed 'Three Graces...

Antique Bronze Figurative Sculpture of Amor with a Dolphin
Located in London, GB
The bronze figurative group on a cylindrical marble base with the mythological god Amor encircled by a large dolphin, signed 'Poirier'. This bronze model is based on the design of an original ancient Roman marble fountain, which was discovered in the city of Pompeii. In 79 AD, the volcano Versuvius erupted, causing the neighboring cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum to become submerged under layers of molten lava and ash. Although the volcanic eruption caused devastation for the people of these ancient cities, the thick layers of ash and pumice preserved many ancient objects and architecture. One of these was the ancient marble fountain that provided the model for this bronze. The original marble was found in the remains of an aristocratic family's garden, where it had stood as an ornamental garden fountain that featured the dolphin's open mouth as a waterspout. The ancient fountain...

Large 19th Century Classical Bronze statue of Amalthea
Located in Brighton, Sussex
A very good quality large 19th century bronze statue of a semi nude female of Amalthea in Marie Antoinette’s dairy. The original is marble from 1787.. There were different traditions regarding Amaltheia.[3] Amaltheia is sometimes represented as the goat who nurtured the infant-god in a cave in Cretan Mount Aigaion ("Goat Mountain"),[4] sometimes as a goat-tending nymph[5] of uncertain parentage (the daughter of Oceanus,[6] Helios,[7] Haemonius,[8] or—according to Lactantius—Melisseus[9]).[10] The possession of multiple and uncertain mythological parents indicates wide worship of a deity in many cultures having varying local traditions.
