Ifpda International Fine Print Dealers Association

International Fine Print Dealers Association (IFPDA)
International Fine Print Dealers Association (IFPDA)

Launched in 1987, the International Fine Print Dealers Association has continually set the bar for quality and ethics while promoting prints as original works of art to generations of collectors, curators and art lovers. With over 160 members in 13 countries, the IFPDA is a worldwide community of leading dealers and editions publishers who represent the full spectrum of printmaking. Each year, the IFPDA hosts the IFPDA Print Fair in New York, the only major fair dedicated to fine-art prints.

He produced a folio of comic drawings in the 1930s which was published in New York in 1934 and another that was published in London in 1936. The Keeper of Prints and Drawings at the British Museum published a mongraph on his work. His London exhibitions were highly successful. In Memory of an Historic Phrase
By Marc Balakjian
Located in New Orleans, LA
Marc Balakjian was enigmatic in his subject matter creating images that are disturbing in their ambiguity. Is this image just striped fabric tied with ropes on a platform or is this is a flag-draped coffin symbolizing those who passed "in memory of an historic phrase"? Politicians may turn the phrase but a price must be paid. This small edition mezzotint was created in 1975 in an edition of only 5. Armenian by descent, Marc Balakjian was raised in Lebanon. He spent his early years in the small town of Rayak, before moving to Beirut at the age of 10. He came to England in 1966, initially to study architecture with a firm in Oxford. He then decided to study art at Hammersmith College of Art and took up a postgraduate degree in printmaking at the Slade School of Art in 1971. After graduating he began working at Studio Prints in 1973, just as it was establishing itself in Queen’s Crescent. By 1976 he had become a full time partner, collaborating with other artists as well as continuing his own work, much of which is inspired by his Armenian and Lebanese culture and heritage. By the 1980s work was falling off, so Balakjian and Studio Prints introduced in-house plate-making to serve painters and sculptors who had little experience with printmaking. Artists such as Leon Kossoff, Frank Auerbach, Lucian Freud and Ken Kiff...

THANKSGIVING IN CAMP
By Winslow Homer
Located in Santa Monica, CA
AFTER - WINSLOW HOMER (1836-1910) THANKSGIVING IN THE ARMY - After Dinner: the Wishbone, 1864 Original wood engraving as published by Harpers Weekly December 3, 1864, after a drawing by Winslow Homer. Image 9 3/4" x 14, Sheet 10 3.\/4 x 15 3/4" . Generally good condition, a small stain in the upper right margin. Homer contributed drawings to Harper's Weekly from 1857 to 1875. They were converted to wood engravings by Harper's craftsman and published in Harper's Weekly. Although after his original drawings, they are now accepted as an important part of his body of work by museums and collectors. They were very large editions. As such, they occur often in the marketplace. Harper's published during the Civil War years as this was, were widely read and kept as people followed the war first hand and its aftermath over the years continuing today as both Homer and Civil War collectables

A fine impression printed on cream wove paper with full margins. Toning in the image, otherwise good condition. Signed in pencil. Housed in a 22 x 28-inch archival mat, suitable for framing. Born in 1818, Sir Francis Seymour Haden was an etcher, collector and surgeon. He studied at the Derby School, Christ’s Hospital and University College in London. He also studied at the medical schools of the Sorbonne in Paris and at Grenoble. He became a member of the Royal College of Surgeons in 1842 and he was made a fellow in 1857. He was an honorary surgeon to the Department of Science and Art from 1851 to 1867 and in 1847 he settled into a private practice. Haden was a vice-president of the obstetrical society of London and one of the founders of the Royal Hospital for Incurables in 1850. He was the first President of the Royal Society of Painter-Echers. In 1858, Haden encouraged James McNeil Whistler to work from nature and consequently, Whistler dedicated his first set of etchings entitled “French Set”, to Haden. The etchings were printed by Auguste Delâtre in Paris and marketed, with some help from Haden, in London. In 1859 Whistler settled in London and often visited Haden’s Sloane Street home. Whistler executed a number of paintings and etchings of domestic scenes within Haden’s home, among them “Reading By Lamplight...
