Japanese Buddhist Monk Priest 7 Column Silk Brocade Kesa Ceremonial Temple Robe
Located in Studio City, CA
A wonderful, beautifully ornamented and somewhat rare fully intact Japanese Buddhist monk/ priest's Kesa ceremonial silk robe featuring various colorful birds in flight.
Kesa (which came from the Chinese word "kasaya") robes have been handmade/handstitched by monks/priests as an act of devotion as ceremonial robes for centuries in various Asian cultures (Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese, Indian, etc.). The kesa is a rectangular garment designed to be worn over the left shoulder (see example image). The robes are made (often in a patchwork column pattern ranging from five, seven, nine or more pannels) specifically for fully ordained Buddhist monks, priests and nuns and are made from donations of exquisite textiles from wealthy patrons of Japanese Buddhist temples. The robes were used in daily ceremonies, temple gatherings, and private meditation.

Chinese Antique Yellow Brown Glaze Pottery Small Plate / 11th-12th Century
Located in Sammu-shi, Chiba
We would like to introduce you to the rare items we have received.
This is a very old vessel from China.
It is a vessel made in a dynasty called "Liao" that existed from the 10th to the 12th century in China.
The image shows a map of China from the 10th century to the 12th century.
The yellow area is "Liao" .
They are characterized by applying colored glazes such as tan, green, and white to their vessels.
There were also monochromatic ones, such as brown ones and only yellow and green ones.
And this item is finished in Yellow brown glaze.
Also, I posted a picture of a glaze pot that is similar to an art book. Please refer to it.
And this item is very beautiful and transparent.
The entire vessel is made to imitate the petals of a flower.
The pottery clay uses bright and slightly whitish clay.
In some cases, white mud is applied as an undercoat before applying yellow or green, and then yellow or green is applied over it.
This item is painted with Yellow brown glaze directly on the clay.
The glaze has fine cracks.
This is common to most Liao period glazes.
Not bad quality.
Therefore, this item also has a little flaking of the glaze.
Also, there is a small chip on the edge.
However, there are not many items that are in perfect condition because they are excavated items, but this one seems to be in quite good condition.
A dedicated storage wooden box is also included.
This was owned by a Japanese collector...

Japanese Antique Overglaze Pottery Square Plate/Square Pottery Tray/1800s/Edo
Located in Sammu-shi, Chiba
This is an overglaze ceramic square plate made in the late Edo period.
It's made in Kyoto.
It is thought that this pottery was made based on a design by a potter called "Kenzan Ogata" who was active in the middle of the Edo period.
(Kenzan Ogata is a famous potter who even appears in Japanese art textbooks.)
The feature of this pottery is that it is made with a unique production technique that after stretching it on a clay plate and cutting it into squares, the clay that has been cut into long strips is pasted on all sides and fired.
This plate is made with a design that makes green and blue stand out on a white base.
Flowers are drawn, but the margins are intentionally removed around them to create a simple finish.
it's very beautiful.
Also, since this pottery has been used for a long time, the glaze is peeling off here and there. See detailed images.
However, this peeling does not progress as much as it is used normally.
In addition, since thin clay plates are fired, the plates themselves tend to warp or twist in the kiln.
This plate is also slightly twisted when viewed horizontally.
However, it can be used without any problems when used as a tray.
It is also worth seeing as an ornamental plate...
