The challenge was to build an ambitious design brand from the ground up with high-quality materials and great attention to the little details. With a drive to create new originals, the WOUD collection is founded upon the idea to look ahead instead of looking back and share the love for honest design. Therefore, we are eager to discover and develop new ideas whether it being in form, function or choice of material.
MSDS STUDIO is a successful Canadian design studio that works in interior, furniture and lighting design. The designers behind the studio are Jessica Nakanishi and Jonathan Sabine. A couple who have mastered to get their name established at numerous of the world’s leading design brands in a few years. We are proud to be able to have three of their designs in our collection. The studio is dedicated to material exploration, rigour and resourcefulness. With a modern approach to design, they create innovative design that engages contemporary culture while staying true to the inheritance of craftsmanship. Their work synthesises very meticulous considerations of color, form and space, which results in simple designs. The Annular pendant was the product that started the collaboration of MSDS and WOUD. Instead of hiding the structures under fabric, Alain Gilles literally x-rayed the welcoming and comfortable traditional sofa to create a graphic and sculptural range of seats for the home and the office. As a result, the pieces are captivating both from the front and from the back.
Design as a second life. After studying Political Sciences and Marketing Management, Alain Gilles went on to work in the international financial world for 5 years. But one has to live his own life. So, thanks to the moral support of his wife, he went back to studying Industrial design in France.
