Velocity
By Gala Bell
Located in London, GB
About the Work: Working in reverse, the image is constructed within a frame of taut silk. Pushing the paint in choreographed gestures, they reveal themselves on the other side, like the texture of a tapestry. Each tiny gap formed by the warp and weft of silk thread is filled with an extruded pixel of colour, resembling the organic patterns of lichens, the skin of a reptile or a galaxy. The pressing of paint unveils to us the underside of the mark, the moment of contact between material and surface that we would never ordinarily see. Light plays a pivotal role in the creation of the artwork, guided by the idea of transverse orientation, which is the behaviour of flying insects that orient themselves toward a distant source of light. Light passing through the silk serves as a guide, revealing areas where paint has not yet touched the surface; it acts as an anchor point, a signal, a place to catch the light. As the screen fills with the movement of paint, the glow from the other side is slowly obscured to the artist behind the screen. The paintings exist through their unbridled unpredictability, engaging in a dialectic that dissolves the hierarchy between painting as an illusion or imitation and painting as an archetype; a free, material process. About the Artist : Gala Bell is a London based multidisciplinary artist. The alchemy of matter is at the centre of her practice, moving between traditional painting and contemporary installation. Graduate of the Royal College of Art, she has been selected for exhibitions with The Design Museum, The Victoria and Albert Museum, The London Design Festival, The Korean Cultural Institute Berlin, Kunsthalle am Hamburger Platz Berlin and Galerie der HBKsaar in Saarsbrucken. Bell has had commissions by BBC One and Tate and Lyle...

NIXIN Jewelry Unicorn Tear Australian Opal Necklace No. 18 in 14k Gold
Located in Los Angeles, CA
A stunning Australian Opal Necklace evokes the essence of summer. Superimposed upon the natural opal is the likeness of a palm tree atop electric greens and blues. The dark silhouette creates a striking contrast against the intense color gradient of the Boulder Opal. Fluctuating between dusk and dawn, the moment captured could be either — or both — and in the exchange, pink sparks ignite. A feeling captured; wear summer endlessly. This colorful piece of dainty jewelry is crafted in 14k gold. The opal pendant glides along an 18" gold chain, resting in its open back bezel setting. Part of a limited edition series, this one of a kind necklace has its unique serial number engraved in back. MATERIALS: • Metal: 14k Yellow Gold with Polish Finish • Stone: 11.97ct Boulder Opal • We use natural gemstones, and some inclusions and slight variations from stone to stone should be expected. The subtle differences in each piece are part of what makes it beautiful and uniquely yours. DIMENSIONS: • Dimensions: approximately 16mm tall (including bail) x 8mm wide x 3mm deep • Length: 18" chain CARE INSTRUCTIONS • Caring For Your Jewelry: Fine jewelry is delicate and should be treated with care. Avoiding any chemical exposures (ie: chlorine, lotion, etc…) and removing your jewelry during rigorous activity (ie: exercise or gardening) or at times of potential impact is advised. Please contact us at for assistance if your stone is loose or your setting is catching. • Cleaning Your Jewelry: Soft and or porous stones such as (solid) Opals, Turquoise, or even Pearls, can be cleaned with a soft toothbrush and warm soapy water. Diamonds are harder, but not impervious to damage — the care instructions above are safe to apply. Unless specifically recommended by us, we advise against the use of chemical cleaners on your NIXIN Jewelry...

Of Antique Verse and High Romance
Located in Clayton, MO
About: Alena's artistic approach is intuitive and gestural. She often works with a limited color palette of encaustic pigment and uses an iterative and spontaneous approach to apply the media. The final phases of creation sometimes include additional intuitive mark-making, subtle line work and sentimental hand-written text from historical, contemporary, or autobiographical sources. Washi Paper: The texture and slight distress in select areas near certain media application is intentional and intended to be part of the overall aesthetic. Shipping: The artwork will be rolled, shipped in a tube, and take approximately 5 business days. For shorter delivery timelines please message Alena directly to make arrangements. Matte and Frame Ideas: Float frames (glass/no glass over the monotype; glass will "flatten" the monotype) Traditional frames with or without a matte When framing the monotype a light ivory or white matte board illuminates the colors. For assistance and/or advice with framing and mounting the monotypes, please contact me directly. Signature and Certificate All artworks are signed on the back in pencil and include the title, creation year, and my signature. A certificate of authenticity is also included with the artwork. ++++ Alena Ahrens is a contemporary American-Asian artist. She studied performance art at MoMA...
