Adriane Escarfullery Corner Chairs

Spanish

Adriane Escarfullery is an architect and designer whose professional journey is defined by a diverse international background in design, education, and research. His career began in 2010 in Palma de Mallorca, where he collaborated with local firms before moving to Lyon in 2013 to work with furniture designer Jérôme Sornay. It was there that he honed his ability to balance design with comfort and developed a deep respect for the natural environment. In 2014, he relocated to London to combine his architecture studies with professional practice, notably working with the research group Desitecture on cutting-edge projects like skyscrapers. Over the following years, he collaborated with global firms such as Benoy, contributing to architectural projects across Europe, the Caribbean, and Central America, learning to prioritize the human element in every space he designed.

In 2020, Escarfullery returned to Palma de Mallorca to establish his own furniture design studio, marking a pivotal step in his career. His studio is driven by a philosophy that resides at the intersection of art and practicality, aiming to push the boundaries of design while ensuring functional, everyday utility. A strong advocate for sustainability, he collaborates with local artisans and utilizes recycled and natural materials to minimize environmental impact. His work is characterized by a "dialogue" between the object and its environment, creating furniture that is robust yet flexible, and deeply rooted in both innovation and tradition.

Solid varnished oak. A company that has always attributed such great importance to the author of the designs could never forget the great figures in history. That is why the BD catalogue of contemporary creations has always included those by admired classical masters. Antoni Gaudí (1852/1926) is, without doubt, the most internationally well-known Spanish architect. But is not only his buildings and brilliant architectural solutions that have travelled the globe. His integrated conception of architecture led him to pay attention, not only to structural calculations, but also to all the decorative elements, including furniture, that would form part of the building. The admiration felt by modern designers for the furniture designed by Gaudí has not gone unnoticed by BD which was the first company to rescue them from history by embarking on their serial production using traditional art and craft techniques and the same materials –varnished solid oak– in order to reproduce all the rich detail displayed by the originals when they were first produced. The Batlló chair...
